VISITOR INFORMATION: IEEE ICC 2012

The Connect-Communicate-Collaborate Team Event:
 

Starting 6:00pm on Sunday June 10th at the OCC with a Pre-Welcome Reception (information below) followed by a special showing at Parliament Hall of the award winning and Parliament Hill for the Mosaika Light Show at 10:00pm. This activity is at no cost to all IEEE ICC 2012 participants and their companions.


Organised Participant Tours:

We welcome you to Ottawa to experience its natural beauty and urban vibe.  The IEEE ICC2012 Organising Committee has helped select organised tours best experienced and cost effective as an escorted group activity.  Take advantage of the walking or bus orientation tours, and the natural activities like biking, white water river rafting, tree-canopy walk or cultural trip to a heritage village reflecting real life in the year 1866. Discover Ottawa City Tour
 
Let your professional tour guide introduce you to the nation’s capital on a 3-hour guided motor coach tour. Sit back and relax while you enjoy learning about the creation of the historic Rideau Canal – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy the sites of the National Capital Region Capital including the Parliament Buildings, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Bank of Canada and the Canadian War Museum.

Cross the Ottawa River into the Province of Quebec and enjoy the architecturally impressive Canadian Museum of Civilization and its unique views of the Ottawa River and the Parliament Buildings. You will see the National Gallery of Canada on the way to Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General of Canada and 24 Sussex Drive, the official residence of the Prime Minister of Canada. On the way you will pass by the Royal Canadian Mint and Embassies and High Commissions. Photo stops will be made at the Parliament Buildings, Canadian Museum of Civilization and the grounds of Rideau Hall.

Cobblestones & Courtyards Walking Tour
 
For those interested in experiencing the history of Ottawa unfold while walking through its historic downtown core. Highlights of this picturesque and informative walk about include:

Ottawa’s ByWard Market has been a hub of the city’s “street level” activity since 1846. Your guide will take you back in time with many stories and anecdotes of the market as you meander through cobblestone courtyards. The ByWard Market is one of Canada's oldest and largest open-air farmers’ markets, and within an area roughly four blocks square, you will find specialty food shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants, cafés and more!

From the ByWard Market the tour continues to the Parliament Buildings, for a tour of the exterior grounds of the seat of Canada’s government and national landmark. After leaving Parliament Hill and on the way back to your hotel, the group will make a final stop to visit the Locks of the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most pleasant urban experiences in the world.

Camp Fortune Aerial Park  
 
Traverse through the tree tops on monkey bridges and challenging yourself on a course high above the ground on aerial steel wires, rope bridges, suspended walkways and net gangways. This three-hour aerial trek culminates with the ultimate thrill of soaring down the giant zip line. The adventure is guaranteed to leave you breathless!

Paddling and Cycling in the Gatineau!
 
Experience light adventure in the heart of the Gatineau Hills while kayaking or canoeing the bay in the picturesque village of Wakefield, Quebec. Your day will begin with a paddle along the Gatineau River surrounded by the verdant foliage of the Gatineau Hills. Glide under one of the longest covered bridges in Canada as you tour around the bay. For those who prefer to stay on land – cycle around the Bay and enjoy the wonderful scenery in the Gatineau Hills. Then, explore the shops and enjoy a repast at one of the many fine bistros and eateries located in this quaint village.

Lafleche Caves Spelunking  
 
Experience the thrill of an underground trek in the vast Canadian Shield’s largest cave. You will be given a helmet with a headlamp. Just like a real explorer, you will be able to follow the guide and make the most of the visit. During this voyage to the heart of the Canadian Shield you will learn about more than 20,000 years of history. Not only that, but you’ll find out about speleology – the study and science of cave exploration.

White Water Rafting on the Ottawa River  
 
Board your luxury motor coach for a picturesque and insightful 1.5 hour drive following the Ottawa River as your guide regales you with stories about the colourful days of this important waterway and now Canada's most popular rafting and kayaking river.

On arrival enjoy lunch followed by a safety briefing and paddling practice led by your guide. After changing, you will be driven to the put-in point to board your rafts where your white water rafting adventure begins.

Please note that Nordic baths are not recommended for pregnant women, people suffering from heart problems, high blood pressure, respiratory difficulties, diabetes or angina. It is recommended not to wear glasses in the saunas.

Practical information

Two towels and a lock will be provided upon arrival; however, you must bring your bathing suit, sandals and a reusable water bottle; you can also bring your bathrobe or buy one at our shop.

Le Nordik has multiple water fountains; water bottles are also available on site.
The site is not accessible to the disabled. Prohibited to those under age 16.
 
 
 
Upper Canada Village    
 
Join your professional tour guide and board a luxury motor coach for a day trip to Upper Canada Village, located on the St. Lawrence River, a short one-hour scenic drive from Ottawa. Escape to another time and place, amidst the sights and sounds of an 1860’s village.

As you navigate through the streets of yesterday, you can explore over 40 heritage buildings, where you will come face-to-face with a variety of costumed historical interpreters. All are eager to chat or demonstrate their roles in 19th century society, including the blacksmith, tinsmith, shoemaker, broom maker, cabinetmaker, cheese maker, baker, printer, mill operators, gardeners and farm families. Horse-drawn wagon and boat rides are available at no extra charge.
