EASY-A is a cooperative project, focussed on the investigation and development of short range communication systems operating in
the 60 GHz ISM band. The target data rates are in the range of 1 Gbit/s to 10 Gbit/s at communication distances from about 1 m up
to 10 m. Within the project, different applications are being addressed:
- Ultra-fast communication in medical systems and telemedicine conference systems,
- Business and industry automation,
- Wireless transmission of uncompressed HDTV Video streams,
- Fast synchronization of business data (wireless HD-backup),
- Ultra-broadband wireless communication systems in the aircraft cabin for passenger connectivity (e.g. In-Flight Entertainment Systems)
The project consortium consists of 14 partner institutions - nine are from industries, three research institutes and two universities.
Additionally, a number of subcontractors supply specific know-how to the consortium.
EASY-A is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)
http://www.pt-it.pt-dlr.de/en/1817.php and coordinated by IHP www.ihp-microelectronics.com.

In the cooperative project MxMobile, the consortium members investigate numerous aspects of multiple-band multiple-standard communication systems
- from network to terminal, from algorithms down to silicon and software, from antenna to baseband circuits. The goal is to enable future products
on network and terminal side which support a combination of cellular and wireless standards more efficiently than by employing dedicated solutions
for each. This requires a shift from a pure hardware-centric to a more software-programmable and -configurable approach and also research in the area
of efficient tools for hardware and software development.
MxMobile is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The consortium consists of 10 partner institutions out of industry,
research institutes, and universities. The project was started in early 2006 and many partners have finished most of their program. Many interesting
results will be displayed during the exhibition.

The University of Paderborn is guided by a central principle: "University for the Information Society". The teaching and research profile
offered within the University's five faculties incorporates a broad and diverse range of subjects, covering the arts and humanities, economics
and business administration, natural sciences and engineering.
Research Group System and Circuit Technology (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Rückert):
Common research goal of the System and Circuit Technology group is the systematic design and appropriate use of innovative microelectronic systems.
In this field, the group comprises work on system and circuit level, both in digital and analogue circuitry. Particular attention is paid to
evaluating the resource-efficiency of massively parallel and dynamically reconfigurable implementations of microelectronic systems. A framework for
design-space-exploration has been developed, to target the application-specific customization of Multi-Processor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) architectures.
Research Group Programming Languages and Compilers (Prof. Dr. Uwe Kastens):
The research interests of this group center around the design and implementation of programming languages, especially domain-specific and visual languages.
In the area of program analysis we work to improve software quality of next generation Java smart card applications. Concerning optimizing code-generation
and fine-grained parallelization, we focus on methods to automatically generate compilers and simulators for design space exploration
of application-specific processors.

When designing modern base stations for mobile communication, energy efficiency plays a very important role. A considerable
fraction of the energy budget of a base station is caused by the power amplifier module. MobileGaN has the global goal to investigate
amplifier concepts for future energy efficient mobile radio base stations. Therefor, research activities in order to develop highly
efficient GaN-HFET based amplifiers are done. The projects within mobileGaN are coordinated according to the competences of the partners.
A global structure results from the two main consortia around the projects “Class-S“ and “ELBA“. In case of “Class-S“, a new amplifier
concept for base stations (“Class-S“) is in the focus of the activities from which a clear efficiency improvement is expected. The emphasis
within “ELBA“ is on investigation and development of a highly efficient power amplifier for reconfigurable base stations, which are capable
to support different mobile radio standards. Both consortia are supported by accompanying projects on “technology“ and “evaluation and
characterization“. These superordinated projects accomplish an important contribution to the questions to be solved within “Class-S“ and “ELBA“.
