For Presenters
This page intends to provide useful information for your presentation at ICC 2009. There are two
different ways of presentating your paper: Teaser-Talks (plus poster) and Oral Presentation. Papers assigned to either category are of equal quality;
the assignment of papers is done based on the paper's suitability!
The final assignment of papers to sessions and time-slots is available as PDF Download.
Please note that papers are assigned to sessions such that no more than one paper of one author is assigned to the same time-slot. We cannot
change the paper order without jeopardizing the integrity of our program and therefore will not consider requests to move papers. Please carefully read the following
comments in order to guarantee an appropriate presentation of your paper, which is the requirement for a fruitful discussion.
Teaser-Talk (plus Poster) Presentation
At ICC 2009 a major part of papers is presented as lecture-style teaser-talks followed by a poster discussion, i.e. we prepare one slide
for each paper (title and authors) and you will briefly introduce your paper to the audience (2-3 minutes). Afterwards, everyone has
the chance to further discuss each paper using the prepared posters. Please note, ICC 2009 does not host poster sessions but teaser talk sessions
which are moderated by session chairs and are supported by additional posters.
Each poster canvas provides a useable area of 115cm x 145cm (width x height) or 45.2in x 57in. It is not recommendable
to put floating text from your paper on the poster but to structure your poster and to use illustrative pictures. Posters
should include: Title, Introduction and Motivation, Previous Work, Main Idea, Results, Conclusions. Furthermore, equations and highly
complex pictures are rarely useful to explain your ideas.
Oral Presentation
Oral presentations are 15 minutes long plus 3 minutes dicussion. In order to synchronize multiple sessions, session chairs will
enforce these limits. ICC 2009 won't provide laptop for the presentation but only video projectors with VGA input (if you cannot provide
your own laptop, please be at the session room as soon as possible, have your presentation as PDF on a USB stick, and contact the session
monitor).
To ensure a successful oral presentation please follow a few simple rules
- A rule of thumb is that each slide should take about 1-2 minutes (in average), i.e. you should not try to present more than 10-15 slides (even 15 slides
is rather packed).
- A good presentation is well motivated, defines assumptions and models, presents the main idea, and analyzes results.
- It rarely happens that equations or highly complex pictures help to explain your ideas! You should rather try to explain
ideas, concepts, and results.
- Prepare for offline discussions and have a printed paper available.
Thank you for presenting your paper at ICC 2009 and we look forward to seeing you in Dresden!
