Introduction

The 2024 IEEE International Communication Conference (ICC) is excited to announce the inaugural Innovation Showcase, an opportunity in a lightning round format for early-stage startups and innovators to showcase their groundbreaking ideas in artificial intelligence (AI) applied to communication technologies. This challenge aims to highlight and reward the transformative potential of AI in revolutionizing communication systems and fostering innovation within the industry.

Challenge Overview

We are seeking proposals from startups and innovators for technology demonstrations that leverage AI technologies to address challenges and unlock new opportunities in communication systems. Whether it's enhancing efficiency, improving user experience, enabling personalized interactions, or advancing security measures, we welcome proposals that demonstrate innovative applications of AI in communications.

Eligibility

• Early-stage startups, individual innovators, and existing research groups in academia, the public sector, or industry are eligible to participate.
• Proposals must focus on the integration of AI technologies into communication systems, applications, or services.
• Participants must have a working prototype or demonstrable concept related to their proposal.

Submission Guidelines

Interested participants are invited to submit proposals addressing the following key points:

1. Problem Statement: Clearly define the communication challenge or opportunity your proposal aims to address.
2. Solution Overview: Describe your AI-driven solution and how it addresses the identified problem.
3. Innovation: Highlight the novelty and uniqueness of your approach compared to existing solutions.
4. Technical Feasibility: Provide an overview of the proposed live demonstration of your innovation, including AI algorithms and methodologies.
5. Potential Impact: Explain the potential impact of your solution on communication systems, applications, and services, including benefits to users, organizations, or society.
6. Team Expertise: Briefly introduce the team members participating in the demonstration and their relevant expertise in AI and communication technology.

Submission Deadline

Proposals must be submitted electronically by 29 April 2024 via the email.

Selection Process

Submitted proposals will be reviewed with regard to likely audience interest in the proposed technology demo. Evaluation criteria include innovation, technical feasibility of demonstration, potential impact, and team expertise. Selected participants will be invited to participate at a special plenary Innovation Showcase event at an IEEE ICC conference evening event in front of all conference participants. In addition, conference attendees will be able to vote on a smartphone application used by the conference for the “Most Innovative New Technology” at the ICC 2024 conference.

Recognition/Prize

Selected participants will receive free admission to the ICC exhibition floor as well as recognition for their participation in the Innovation Showcase. This includes exposure at the IEEE ICC conference, acknowledgment in conference materials, and networking opportunities with industry professionals and peers. The winner of the innovation showcase vote by conference participants will be recognized at the closing keynote of the conference.

• Proposal Submission Deadline: 29 April 2024
• Finalists Notification: 10 May 2024
• Innovation Showcase lightning round presentation at 6 p.m. on 10 June 2024
